The demand for renting is strongest among 25 to 40 year olds as they are finding it extremely difficult to become owner-occupiers as mortgage lenders can require higher deposits than in the past, and the lenders have also introduced far more stringent lending criteria following the Mortgage Market Review.

Furthermore, most university graduates after leaving college and starting work, are still repaying student loans as university tuition fees have increased significantly which is further impacting the ability of young adults to save for a deposit.
